Rescue protocol

I am not sure how to start this post so I’ll just jump right into it. When we arrived at the vets she explained that she would run a load of tests on Cleo. We told her about the coughing and the lumps becoming more prominent. She said there are probably some lymph nodes we cannot see pressing on her throat causing her to cough thinking there is something there to clear. We talked about the rescue protocol they are going to try to then Cleo happily went off with her. After what seemed like forever, expecting the phone to ring to say “Sorry we cannot try the alternative drugs”, we came back to pick her up at 12. Myra said Cleo’s blood count was good enough for her to have the drugs and that she took the injections and infusions like a pro. Didn’t even flinch. She said that …

So now we know

Even though we (and the vet) were pretty sure the cancer had come back, we received a call today confirming that it has. I don’t know what to say except that I am devastated, we both are. The vet also told my wife that even with the different drugs she wants to try, Cleo would always need them and stop being in remission soon after they stop. We’ve made an appointment for Thursday to go up and discuss things with the vet and decide how to proceed. Right now, I just don’t know. I mean, is it right to put her through week after week of treatment? She is always a little off colour for a day or two after it. There is nothing else really to add. It is now a question of when and not if. I want her to go out happy and as well as possible. …
